PotPlayer is a media player that supports a variety of media formats and has a large set of controls and options.
This media player handles all major formats, including AVI, MOV, and MKV files. It also handles rather large files as well, upwards of 1.5GB, reinforcing the well-deserved reputation of quality that comes from Korean developers.
PotPlayer is developed by South Korean Daum Communications, a large company that offers many digital services, including a blogging platform and an online automobile insurance company. Ironically, Daum does not have an English language website, yet PotPlayer is available completely in English.
PotPlayer has a very wide range of features and options for both video and audio files, perhaps even enough to rival popular players such as VLC. These many options are all available through the main right-click pop-up menu and its sub-menus, which leaves a bit to be desired as far as usability is concerned. Also, the dark interface is not housed in a normal window but has its own default skin with many smaller buttons, which, in form if not color, evokes WinAmp's old design. While it can take awhile to learn and navigate all these features and sub-menus, the range of functions is impressive and may be worth exploring for users who might use a large selection of functions.
Video options include a growing range of features, including video effects manipulation, as well as performance optimization for slower systems. The player also supports subtitle files with .ass, .srt, .xsub and .sup extensions, and automatically includes subtitles if the file is located in the same folder as the video file.
The program includes a set of visualizers for audio files and provides an equalizer. It can also show and modify output information, such as the bitrate, range, format and many other options, which the lay user may not need.
